Rooted in community and representation, Hispanics in Wine & Spirits (HIWS) is a nonprofit organization providing educational and career-advancement opportunities to the ever-growing Hispanic and Latine community of beverage professionals in the United States and worldwide. From a comprehensive directory of wine professionals and strategic partnerships to events, scholarship opportunities, and more, HIWS aims to connect, amplify, and support the ever-growing Hispanic and Latine community.

Hispanics, Latino/Latina, Latine and LatinX

Hispanics refers to people from Spain or Spanish-speaking origin. For example, Hispanic would include people from Spain and not Brazil, where Portuguese is spoken. Latino/Latina refers to people of Latin American descent living in the United States; this term includes Brazilians and excludes people from Spain. In recent years, the terms LatinX and Latine have gained popularity. Latinx and Latine are the gender-neutral or non-binary terms for Latino/Latina and pushes back on the gendered language to be more inclusive.

“Un gran vino requiere un loco para hacerlo crecer, un hombre sabio para velar por él, un poeta lúcido para elaborarlo, y un amante que lo entienda”

Salvador Dalí (España)
